Artifacts

For this artifact, I was tasked with creating a visual design graphic that contained an intended objective. For this project I designed an ice cream advertisement using PowerPoint. This assignment's use of technology opened my eyes to PowerPoints design capabilities due to only using the software for presentations previously. The use of bright colors to align with the fourth of July as well as the text blatantly incentivizing the audience allowed for a marketing strategy that was upfront and anything but subtle.

Taking place during my first course in graduate school, this was my first major project. This assignment involved an in-depth research process as I observed trends in social media usage on statistic websites. Once my findings were documented I would then provide a solution for my proposed issue.

For this assignment I conducted a usability test for a website of my choosing. I gathered three participants whose ages varied to observe their navigation process. The interview-like format allowed me to document the perspectives of each participant to measure the website's effectiveness.

To demonstrate our awareness of what makes a communication method effective, me and my classmates were tasked with creating a misleading graphic. This tested my rhetorical knowledge with me thinking about the inverse of what I was studying, what frustrated viewers. Misleading information and data that isn't present were the first things to come to mind. To me, this assignment meant that if I knew what frustrated audiences, knowing what they want should come easily for me.
